"The will to win is important, but the will to prepare is vital." - Joe Paterno.
This one of my favorite quotes from one of my all-time favorite sports figures. But shame on Joe Paterno and shame on Penn State! A coaches job is to teach, to encourage and to protect. With out any one of those three, you can not be considered a true coach. Penn State and Joe Paterno did not protect their athletes. If you have knowledge of molestation and rape in your program it is up to YOU to report the incident. Not just to the Athletic Director but to the police.
I am beyond disgusted with the news of the 40, yes I said it, 40 counts of sexual abuse of children. The first accusation was reported in 1998. In all honesty, I am not only concerned with the coaches that failed to correctly report the incidents but I am also concerned about the parents that failed to report the acts to any law enforcement officials. This is just a hot mess!
And it top it off....Paterno, as of this morning, plans to finish the season with the team. A friend of mine, Carl A. Kemp to be exact, posed the question; Why is it the African-American athletes that except gifts are suspended immediately but an old white man that looks the other way to child molestation stays put? I'm disgusted and open to feed back.
Success without honor is an unseasoned dish; it will satisfy your hunger, but it won't taste good. Joe Paterno
